This role entails


We are looking for an experienced Production Specialist/Camera Operator to join our busy news team who produce live news programmes and bulletins at ITV News Meridian.

Based in Maidstone, you will work as part of a multi-skilled team providing strong technical expertise.


We are looking for someone with the ability and desire to work closely with our team, providing technical and operational support predominantly across the East of the Meridian patch.

This post will include assisting the technical support engineer with maintenance of office and location kit, first line maintenance, editing, use of templated graphics, server management and some location newsgathering as a camera operator out on location.

Production Specialists work as part of a multi-disciplined team providing technical, craft, operational and administrative skills across all areas of the news service


It is essential that you have a technical background and will certainly have a passion for live TV news production, particularly in a technical or operational or support capacity.

You will be a highly motivated individual as well as friendly and approachable, you will be committed to working as part of a successful team, sharing the responsibility for supporting programme production by having the willingness and aptitude to learn many new skills with appropriate training.

Above all you will be an excellent communicator who is quick thinking and calm under pressure with strong and effective decision making skills.

The rostered hours may include weekend working, late shifts, bank holidays, as well as early morning shifts.


To be considered for this opportunity you will need to demonstrate the Minimum role criteria:

  • Proven experience relevant to the role.
  • Camera work experience (preferably in a newsgathering environment).
  • Experience of working effectively as part of a team.
  • The ability to carry out a number of tasks simultaneously and concurrently with great attention to detail.
  • Possess full UK drivers licence
The selection process will use the following key criteria to assess all applicants for the role. A good level of physical fitness is required due to the weight of the equipment needed in this role.

  • Confident and clear communication skills.
  • The ability to demonstrate resilience & determination with a willingness to learn new skills.
  • Proven track record of working successfully and accurately to deadlines and focusing well under pressure.
