An opportunity to join our team as an Apprentice

  • An excellent opportunity to start a career, complete an apprenticeship and progress within an independent law practice. General duties may include making and receiving telephone calls, preparing precise attendance notes, and filing, etc.
  • One day is never the same as the next, exciting busy workload and you will meet a variety of people from all walks of life.
  • The apprentice will aid in the smooth running of the Weymouth Branch to aid all staff to be more efficient.

Future Prospects

  • Possible full time position at the end, with a starting salary of £19,000. Other positions are unknown at this time but will be discussed close to the ending of the apprenticeship

The Law Practice

  • Formed in 1999 by the merging of two wellestablished Dorset Firms,, whose history can be traced back over 100 years. We have considerable experience of dealing with the requirements of both business and private clients, in many areas of law.
  • The firm has 3 partners and offices in Weymouth, and Dorchester

Environment

  • Office premises situated inside an old residential building
  • The office can be busy and frantic one minute and quiet and focussed the next, each department has its own office areas.
  • The apprentice will be sat with our current receptionist.

Your role

  • Manage the reception area within the office to a high professional standard.
  • Answer calls not picked up by each department and transfer them to the appropriate department or take sufficiently detailed messages and pass these messages along.
  • Deal with Clients arriving in person, and providing a friendly and welcoming atmosphere, whilst they await the staff member they have come to see.
  • Always work in accordance with the policies and practices defined within the Office Manual and to liaise with The Business Manager regarding suggested improvements to any aspect of the quality system.
  • Ensuring Client Confidentiality at all times.
  • Assist with incoming and outgoing post, filing, photocopying, court bundle preparation, ensuring the stationery order is put away upon arrival.
  • Occasional travel out of the office to purchase small petty cash items.
  • Assisting the Business Manager with any Office Management duties as necessary.
  • ANy adhoc duties around the office, as is deemed appropriate.

Desired skills
-
4-9 grades English and maths GCSE's:

  • Confident with excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to multitask and manage reception in conjunction with other administration duties
  • Good attention to detail
  • Good working knowledge of ICT packages including Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Ability to demonstrate or gain a clear understanding of the firm's inhouse systems where training will be given
  • Excellent presentation, organisation and timekeeping skills
  • Awareness of confidentiality and safeguarding
  • The ability to use own initiative, be able to work individually as well as part of a team
  • Must be wellpresented with a clear, pleasant telephone manner
  • Good organisational skills
  • Good client care skills

  • Level 3 in Business Administration Apprenticeship Standard
