Applications are invited for the above posts to commence as soon as possible for a period of 3 months until Aug 2023 to cover a vacancy created by an existing Fellow


The Manchester HPB Unit is one of the largest in the country and undertakes over 300 liver and pancreas resections a year.

There is also a significant exposure to complex benign hepatobiliary disease.

The medical HPB and Gastroenterology unit is also incorporated into a common GI Medicine and Surgery directorate that includes Colorectal and Emergency General Surgery services.

The HPB surgery unit is staffed by four Deanery trainees and up to two Senior Clinical Fellows


To provide a clinical service in Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgery at Senior level, working closely with the Specialty Registrars year 3 and above, Senior Clinical fellow and Foundation doctors under the supervision of the consultants.

The post holder will be accountable to the Lead Clinician.

Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust is a major teaching Trust with ten hospitals on a number of sites.

The hospitals involved are Manchester Royal Infirmary, Manchester Royal Eye Hospital, Saint Mary's Hospital, Royal Manchester Children's Hospital and University Dental Hospital of Manchester (collectively known as the Oxford Road campus), Wythenshawe Hospital, Withington Community Hospital, Trafford General Hospital, North Manchester General Hospital and Altrincham Hospital.


The Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Unit base at Manchester Royal Infirmary is one of the biggest in UK and Europe for number of patients treated each year.

It is the HPB provider for Greater Manchester and vast majority of Lancashire and Cheshire serving a population of over 3.5 million.

Out of region referrals are also very common. A regional cancer network coordinate patients referrals from fourteen peripheral hospitals into the HPB service. Along with the HPB Surgeons, there are dedicated HPB diagnostic and interventional radiologists, anaesthetists, endoscopists, hepatologists and pancreatologists, pathologists, nutritionists, physiotherapists and four cancer clinical nurse specialists
