The Company


J&D Wilkie Ltd is a global technical têxtile manufacturing company, with its head office in Kirriemuir; where technical weaving operations are its core business.


The Role
We are offering one position at our Forfar site.

The role is on a
full-time basis and is to join the team in producing woven technical têxtiles, which are to specified quality and consistency standards.

You will be trained onsite in the weaving of technical têxtiles.

We are ideally seeking individuals who are suited and prepared to follow instruction, whilst learning with the mentoring of colleagues and following an established training programme.

You will have the ability to take in new information and build a sound understanding of fabric and yarns. You will learn how to check for correct fabric qualities and find common faults.

Following your training you will be required to:

  • Understand the functional operations of a weaving loom.
  • Be responsible for productivity and quality whilst overseeing the operations of a set of looms.
  • Be responsible for ensuring that the correct yarns are utilised within the product specified.
  • Contact the Lead Technician in case of queries on procedure or products and to communicate any issues related to defective equipment, yarns and fabrics.
  • Understand the safety requirements and ensure that you work within the Company's health and safety framework.
  • Work effectively as part of the production team be able to respond to changing requirements and promote a 'right first time, no fault' forward approach to quality.
  • Keep the equipment and work areas, within your area of responsibility, both clean and serviceable at all times.
  • Carry out any other duties as required to suit the needs of the business.
  • Work additional overtime when required.
  • Provide operational cover for absence/holidays across all shift patterns.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience


A flexible proactive attitude towards your workload is important, as we operate in a fast-paced changeable environment that requires a quality driven approach within a health and safety driven team.

You should be conscientious and strive to exceed expectations and deliver quality.

Your ability to complete the above will be complemented by:

  • A quality focused approach and attitude.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to check the fabric is completed to specification and free from flaws and errors.
  • Good eyesight (including near vision, distance vision, colour vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to change focus).
  • Ability to work upon your own initiative and effectively as part of a team, with clear communication to both managers and colleagues.
  • Given the industrial work environment and complexity of machinery some work experience is preferable, although full training will be provided.
  • We are looking for an individual who can provide a positive contribution with the ability to work independently, whilst also maintaining good working relationships with colleagues.

  • Our operations are 24 hours 5 days a week (Mon to Fri), the role will operate
    Double Day Shift 6am2pm/2pm10pm alternating weekly. Our shift patterns allow for travel during nonpeak times, avoiding periods of heavy traffic.
