Job summary:


We have an exciting opportunity for a passionate
Early Careers and Apprentice Lead The role has been created to expand and grow the work undertaken to date to ensure UKHO is an employer of choice.

We are looking for a
creative and driven team player to join our People division to lead our Early Careers schemes and develop our strategy, helping us to continue to
attract talent and build our capability for the future.

We're looking for someone with experience of successfully implementing an Early Careers Strategy.

You'll be responsible for leading the agenda on early careers, developing the strategy to continue to drive the business forward.

Supporting with identifying future skills requirements and continuing to grow our apprenticeship offering. You'll be communicating with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.

Job description:


This is a brand-new role in our Learning & Development team, and offers a high level of autonomy in a flexible environment.

As our Early Careers and Apprentice Lead you'll be involved in the following right from the word go:


  • Managing our early careers and apprenticeship schemes.
  • Engaging with other government departments and local employers/colleges/schools to ensure UKHO is an employer of choice.
  • Managing the daytoday providers for our apprenticeship schemes. Working with the business, HR business partners and resource team to understand future skill demands and early talent programmes.
  • Undertaking outreach work within the local area and attending careers fairs to support building a pipeline for the future talent.

Person specification:

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include the following. Our selection criteria is listed under the selection process section below.

  • Champion the UKHO as an employer of choice and promote the ongoing development and implementation of the Early Careers Strategy both internally and externally.
  • Develop our overall strategy for early careers/apprenticeship including building our future talent pipeline
  • Ensure the UKHO Apprenticeship strategy fits with the Public Sector Apprenticeship Strategy and links to the UKHO Workforce Plan/People Strategy
  • Maintain/Manage the Digital Apprenticeship Account, regularly provide management information to MOD and internal stakeholders
  • Representation UKHO at crossgovernment working groups in relation to Early Careers, Apprenticeships

This is a Ministry of Defence non-reserved post and although open to UK, British Commonwealth and European Economic Area nationals, successful applicants will require a security clearance (SC) and therefore need to have resided in the UK for a minimum of 12 consecutive months within the last 5 years.
