About the Role


Edge Hill University is looking to appoint a committed and enthusiastic clinician to the post of Associate Head Undergraduate Medicine within the department of undergraduate medicine, Faculty of Health, Social Care and Medicine.

This is a newly created role and will provide the successful applicant with an opportunity to make a major contribution to the development and implementation of the MBChB programme at Edge Hill University at an important time in its development.

You will be responsible for curriculum development and delivery of the MBChB.

You will oversee the teaching and learning of undergraduate medical students across all five years of the programme supported by Year Leads and the wider curriculum team.

Leading the academic team you will ensure the delivery of high-quality up-to-date teaching and learning to our students and promote, develop and support scholarship and research informed teaching and curriculum design.


Liaising with MBChB leads you will encourage effective and high-standard admission and assessment processes and encourage quality assurance throughout the student learning experience.


It is envisioned that this will be a joint appointment in tandem with clinical duties, between the University and a clinical employer.

In line with Follett principles or another similar model, it is anticipated that clinical and academic PAs will be combined as part of a jointly agreed job description / annualised job plan.


About You


You will be a committed and enthusiastic clinician with experience of undergraduate medical education and knowledge of Higher Education curricula.

You will be an effective research-informed leader, teacher and assessor and have experience of curriculum planning and delivery.


An engaging leader with excellent communication skills and emotional intelligence you will motivate, mentor and support the development of our staff and students.

You will also have experience of networking and building highly effective relationships with key stakeholders and working with NHS placement providers to ensure appropriate high-quality undergraduate medicine clinical placements.


It is important to note that the successful applicant will be required to undertake an enhanced disclosure for you from the Disclosure and Barring Service and that this will form part of the conditions of offer of employment.
