Anaesthetics is part of the Directorate of Anaesthesia, Theatres and Critical Care. Both ICU units have received the rating of Outstanding by the Care Quality Commission.

The Job Plan will be a prospective agreement between the appointee and the chief of service, that sets out a consultant's duties, responsibilities and objectives for the coming year.

It covers all aspects of a consultant's professional practice including clinical work, teaching, research, education and managerial responsibilities. It provides a clear schedule of commitments, both internal and external.

In addition, it includes personal objectives, including details of links to wider service objectives, and details of support required by the consultant to fulfil the job plan and the objectives.

Changes having budgetary or contractual implications would also need the agreement of the chief executive.

These posts comprise of 10 programmed activities (10PA). 8PAs will be dedicated to anaesthetic sessions which may be worked flexibly through the week. 1PA will be allocated to on call. The remaining 1PA will be allocated for SPA.

A team of 7 consultants oversee the high-risk anaesthetic clinic service.

The department also includes a very active group of chronic pain consultants.

Our anaesthetic department rates highly with trainees and staff in the department as being a pleasant and supportive place to work.

Frimley Park has a very busy emergency department, and this is reflected in the utilisation of the CEPOD and the orthopaedic trauma lists, both of which operate seven days a week.

The theatres work an extended day (12 hour/day) and consultants on call in both anaesthetics and ICU are present on site until 10pm.

The trust has recently implemented an electronic patient record system (EPIC). This is an integrated clinical information system that encompasses all aspects of patient care, which is now paper-free.

Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust (FHFT) is one of the largest Acute Trusts in the South East, formed from the merger of Frimley Park Hospital in Surrey with Heatherwood and Wexham Park in East Berkshire in 2014.

The Trust provides inpatient services on three sites: Heatherwood Hospital in Ascot, Wexham Park Hospital in Slough and Frimley Park in Surrey. In addition, the Trust provides outpatient and diagnostic facilities at St Mark's Hospital in Maidenhead, King Edward VII Hospital in Windsor, Upton Hospital in Slough and within Bracknell Forest and the Chalfont's.

Our Trust is a progressive trust with futuristic views. We are in the process of digitalising patient records and have implemented the EPIC software for electronic patient records.

The Trust's Anaesthetic Services achieved the highest possible rating of 'outstanding' in the CQC inspection carried out in November 2018.

Teams were praised for focusing on the individual needs of patients under exceptional circumstances and for their commitment to multi-disciplinary working.
