The Recipe
Are you currently working within a fast-paced Distribution Management as a Driver Operations Manager, Depot Manager or Transport Manager and ready for your next challenge?


Working alongside the Distribution Manager, as part of the distribution management team at Howden depot, you'll manage 4 Team Manager reports in the safe, efficient and effective performance of our distribution operation through continuous improvement.

AtHowden Depot we have approximately 60 in the distribution team working hard to ensure we successfully distribute our fresh baked product directly to Customer stores each day.

Key Accountabilities and Measures


As our Depot Manager you will lead the safe, efficient and effective running of the depot to ensure performance and customer service standards are achieved and continuously improved.

Working with your colleagues to lead and manage the compliance with Healthand Safety and Food Safety Legislation, policies and standards, initiating any required action so that the department is healthy, safe and free from accidents.

You will be accountable for ensuring all employees and vehicles are compliant with transport operator'sregulations to ensure continued legal vehicle operation.

You will ensure our quality products reach our customers on time and in full.

We never compromise on Health & Safety, Legal Compliance and ensuring we adhere to Transport Operator Regulations.

You will lead, develop and motivate your team to ensure they achieve the goals and targets agreed in their performance review meetings and work with the wider Distribution team to shape the depot strategy and drive continuous improvement, identifying andmanaging the execution of depot based continuous improvement projects, contributing to improvements across the national and regional distribution function.


We will be looking for you to be able to lead by example and through industry expertise, to be a decisive, inspirational leader, passionate about creating a "One Team " culture across both Warehouse & Distribution.


Working within a fast-paced 24/7 distribution site you will appreciate the importance of clear and consistent communication, working in collaboration shifts within Warehouse & Distribution.

To do this you will have previous experience of working with cross-functionalteams, running both site and group meetings to understand operational issues, strategy and planning.


You'll effectively manage the operation to confirm that budget targets and key cost ratios are achieved and ensure all vehicles are released for maintenance and maintained in accordance with Company policy and statutory and legal requirements.


Essential Ingredients

  • An experienced People Manager and Leader within a distribution environment
  • A current CPC holder
  • Experience of managing daily multidrop operations within a fastpaced FMCG business
  • Previous experience of defining and managing an operating budget
  • Transport and Health and Safety legislation knowledge
  • A solid understanding of Distribution systems, processes and Operator Licence, Tachograph & Working Time Directive regulations
  • Working knowledge and experience within a Unionised environment
  • Experience of working with and managing relationships with 3rd party suppliers
  • A working knowledge of IT systems ideally SAP
  • Analytical & problemsolving skills within project management or change management
