Position:


Role Summary:

To provide technical & infrastructure support to the KFS IT team and wider business.

To work with the IT department, quality and operational teams on continuous improvement plans to improve IT quality standards, process efficiency and service delivery.


Duties & Responsibilities:


  • To assist in the monitoring and resolution of support tickets in conjunction with our thirdparty managed service providers.
  • Where necessary to provide direct technical support to operational and administrative teams
  • To support and deliver critical business improvement projects as directed by senior members of the IT team, the Director of Operations and the Managing Director.
  • To act as a technical advisor to members of the operational and senior management teams
  • To support the IT and quality teams in ensuring that the KFS Quality Management System is kept up to date and that IT procedures and documentation is compliant to the Forensic Science Regulator Code of Practice and ISO standards
  • To support internal and external quality audits, data security and BCDR testing activities
  • To advise on the construct and development of the IT infrastructure and estate, including static and mobile devices. Where necessary to prepare business proposals and costings for consideration by senior management
  • To assist with maintaining Cyber Essentials Plus certification
  • To assist in the progression of nonconformance investigations to establish root cause and implement improvement and corrective actions
  • To advise on IT performance issues and work with the IT team and wider IT stakeholders to devise plans for resolution
  • May be required to join an outofhours oncall rota to respond to outofhours queries. Shall be willing to work unsociable hours on occasion to meet business needs and minimise service disruption

  • Professional and courteous disposition; a 'cando' approach but with the ability to delegate tasks e.g. to third party suppliers, and to manage a busy workload in line with business needs
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to translate technical information into lay terms

  • Demonstrate excellent time management, ability to prioritise according to wider business objectives and delegate tasks to third party providers in accordance with service contracts
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convert complex IT language into lay terms.
  • Flexible and willing to work out of office hours if required and ability to travel to all sites when required.

Professional Knowledge and Skills
Has a sound knowledge of IT infrastructure to at least tier 1 engineer support level. Willing to learn and promote self-development.


Desirable Attributes:


  • Selfdisciplined, able to work without supervision and as part of a team; not afraid to ask for help or advice prior to action
  • Competent use of Microsoft Office packages, in particular MS Excel and Word
  • Good working knowledge of mobile phone and printer/scanning technology. Some experience of IT project coordination and delivery would be advantageous.

Qualifications:


  • Education to Diploma/Degree level or equivalent IT based qualification is desirable but not essential

Experience:


  • Demonstrable experience in an IT technical support role would be highly advantageous

  • Salary £2530k per annum
