What's the role?


Joining at an exciting growth phase in SMS, the role of Senior Energy Procurement Coordinator will manage and operate a variety of activities, including tendering and delivering fixed and flexible energy procurement services.

Working in a fast-paced environment, the role sits within the Energy Markets team within the Energy Bureau Services division. Across our teams, we provide our clients with industry-leading energy billing, energy management, energy brokerage and treasury services.


Liaising with clients and energy suppliers, you will provide a best in class service, meeting deadlines and monitoring developments in the energy markets that are likely to affect contract energy prices.

In addition, you will be responsible for setting client budgets in line with their risk appetite and will lead the day-to-day management of your client's supply contracts.

Work Schedule: 37.5 contractual hours per week. Hybrid working Monday to Friday (2 days in office, 3 at home).


Key responsibilities:


  • Lead tenders and assist in closing deals within commercial parameters.
  • Closing contracts between client and supplier. This will involve managing the customers' expectations during a tender and negotiating the price with the supplier to close the deal.
  • Proactively track the market and ensure indicators and market intelligence are acted upon and disseminated into energy supply activities and purchasing strategies.
  • Take full account management responsibility for an existing portfolio.
  • Sustained engagement with new and existing clients to fully understand their energy procurement requirements.
  • Oversee and fully implement work already undertaken in establishing working partnerships with new suppliers to the market.
  • Maintain customer service levels to the client service level agreements.
  • Implement effective purchasing strategies for Fixed/Flexible supply contracts.
  • Take a lead role in delivering and developing our energy and water procurement services.
  • Any other procurement duties as required by the Manager.

To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:

  • GSCE (or equivalent) in English and Maths
  • Higher education to Alevel or Degree (or equivalent)
  • Desirable
  • Experience of tendering for energy contracts (essential)
  • Good knowledge in the use of Microsoft Office package (especially Excel)
  • Ability to organise and prioritise work to meet deadlines and manage the expectations of project stakeholders
  • Excellent numerical reasoning and problemsolving skills
  • Energy trading experience (desirable)
  • A high level of attention to detail
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Ability to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines
  • Ability to organise and prioritise workloads
  • Strong negotiation skills and the ability to communicate at all levels
