The Urology Theatres are based within a purpose-built suite comprising of a patient reception area, three operating theatres and a two-stage recovery area.

The department is based in the Nottingham Urology Centre at NUH and has a dedicated team of registered theatre practitioner, recovery practitioners, clinical and theatre support workers who work permanently in this area

Main duties of the job

This is a busy unit, receiving patients on the day of their admission for surgery.

Patients attend for a range of surgical procedures which can range from a minor day case surgery to major cancer surgery.

The department provides surgical services for both Urology and elective Gynaecology and has recently developed services further to support Thoracic and Colorectal robot-assisted surgery.

Working for our organisation

Previous theatre experience is desirable but not essential since training will be given.

This post will include cross-site working to meet the needs of the service as we develop it.

To work as an effective member of the multi-disciplinary team assisting with patient care activities under the direct supervision of a Theatre Practitioner.

Following appropriate training and assessment of competence undertake identified clinical and non-clinical duties

  • Works as part of a team and helps others within the team
  • Under the supervision of the registered Theatre Practitioner in charge deliver a range of care to patients
  • Is aware of the process and reporting mechanism within own department when faced with challenges from others
Desirable criteria

  • Experience of delivering care in a Healthcare Environment

Skills:

Essential criteria

  • Demonstrate effective written communication skills
  • Maintains patient records under the supervision of a registered Theatre practitioner using paper or information systems as and when required
  • Understands and practices the principles of confidentiality

Salary:
The quoted salary will be on a pro rata basis for part time workers.
