Description

To obtain investigation results and exercise judgement to ensure that medical attention is urgently drawn to histology and urgent telephoned results and all results are filed in the patients records To type all correspondence relating to out-patients and in-patients, including typing of departmental correspondence, with a low rate of errors and to meet Trust turnaround targets.

Ensure Waiting List cards are scanned and handed to Waiting List Team. Regularly liaising with the Assistant Directorate Support Manager, Directorate Co-ordinator, Surgical Co-ordinator ensure departmental priorities are met. Managing consultants diaries, booking meetings and taking minutes where appropriate.


Arrange patients new and follow up appointments as required using Patient Administration System (PAS) and liaison with appropriate departments Receive enquiries from patients and staff, resolving enquiries of a more complex nature and dealing with as appropriate.

Liaise professionally with all departments regarding admissions, waiting lists, ad hoc ward attenders and cancellations ensuring hospital policies are adhered to.

To provide cross cover for secretarial team during annual leave and sickness.

Co-operate with the introduction of new procedures, policies or technology, including any technology associated with the Patient Administration System (PAS), assisting team leads with implementation.

To set up and maintain filing systems ensuring all documents are accurately and appropriately stored/archived. To participate in team, professional and personal development activities and promote commitment to continuous development and improvement.

To ensure that all staff consciously review mistakes, complaints and incidents/near misses as well as successes to improve performance and the level of customer care.

To undertake any tasks relevant to the work of a medical secretary which develop as a special requirement of the Directorate
