A full range of District General Hospital Specialties are delivered from Inverclyde Royal Hospital which has 251 beds and approximately 4,200 General Anaesthetic patients per year.

The department is responsible for the delivery of services for a wide range of specialties including Orthopaedics and General Surgery on an emergency and inpatient basis.

In addition day surgery is undertaken for Ophthalmology, Gynaecology, Urology, ENT and Dental. The anaesthetic department also run an acute and chronic pain service.

The Post


Whilst the posts are based primarily at Inverclyde Royal Infirmary it is also anticipated that one day per week would be at the Royal Alexandra Hospital, Paisley (the largest acute hospital in the Clyde sector located 15 miles from Inverclyde Royal Hospital).


The scope of surgical practice at Inverclyde Royal Hospital offers exciting and varied clinical opportunities for consultant anaesthetists and there is continued support for non-clinical professional activities both inside and outside the Board.

quality improvement activity and the clinical supervision and training of our postgraduate trainees in Anaesthesia. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is fully committed to continuing medical education for our consultants.

Salaries for a Consultant in Scotland start from **£
91,474 - £121,548 (GBP) based on a 40 hour contract (10 sessions).

Additional payments can be achieved for extra sessions and on-call commitments.

Other benefits include Up to 6 weeks holiday per year and 10 days public holidays (_pro rata less than full time hours if applicable_).

An NHS pension scheme, 30 days of study leave entitlement in any three year period and access to the NHS Scotland Discretionary Points financial award scheme.

A relocation package up to £8000 to support relocation into the area if necessary.
