We have a part time 0.6 WTE Band 3 post for Administrative and Clerical Secretary (Barnet Orthoptic Team).

We are looking for somebody with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, a positive and innovative approach to service development and a commitment to working within a multi-disciplinary team


Band 3 Administrative and Clerical Secretary post provides an exciting opportunity to work in CLCH community Paediatric Eye Service in the Borough of Barnet.

The post holder will be a member of the dynamic multi-disciplinary Orthoptic/Optometrist team, working with a mixed caseload of clients.

The post holder will be in charge of school vision and hearing screening referral booking.

Applicants should have a years' experience working in a medical team or in equivalent settings in similar post.

You will be required to communicate complex needs and provide training to junior staff.

You should have good organisational skills, a commitment to multi-disciplinary working and an understanding of working alongside services

To co-ordinate and facilitate the activities within the Orthoptic and Eye clinic in consultation with the clinic services and to ensure that patient services are maintained on a day-to-day basis and that the Orthoptic and Eye clinic runs smoothly.


  • To ensure prioritisation of new patient appointment after consultation with the Head Orthoptist
  • To register patients on System One and make appointments using this system
  • Maintain and audit school vision screening inbound referrals data base; liaise with school vision and hearing screening coordinator to contact and book patients efficiently.
  • To undertake general office/reception duties as necessary, including dealing with telephone enquiries, photocopying, distribution of post, ordering stationery, etc
  • Preparation of Orthoptic and Eye clinic notes/clinics
