The Ministerial and Communications Group sits at the heart of the Treasury.
It provides support to Ministers, through the Ministerial offices; it acts as the external face of the Treasury, through the Press Office and Communications teams; and it is responsible for the management of the department, through its support for the Permanent Secretary, the Treasury Board and the Executive Management Board (EMB), and its ownership of Treasury governance structures.

Permanent Secretary's Office and Executive Management Board (EMB)
The Permanent Secretary's Office and EMB is a small, friendly team comprising the Permanent Secretary, Second Permanent Secretaries and Directors General and the people who support them.
We provide senior leadership to the Department and are committed to running the Treasury in an open and accountable way.

- The Permanent Secretary, James Bowler, who has overall responsibility for the work of HMT officials.
- Second Permanent Secretary, Beth Russell, who is responsible for tax and welfare, enterprise and growth policy and heads up the Darlington Economic Campus.
- Second Permanent Secretary, Cat Little, who is responsible for spending and public services, international and national security policy, and is also the head of the Government Finance Function.
- Second Permanent Secretary, Sam Beckett, who is our Chief Economic Adviser and is the head of the Government Economic Service.
Each of the Second Permanent Secretaries and Directors General have their own office, consisting of a Private Secretary and an Executive Assistant.
Key Accountabilities:
This is an exciting new role at the heart of the Treasury. We are looking for an experienced leader who is able to operate effectively across HMT and wider government.
This role will sit at the top of the Permanent Secretary's Office, supporting the Permanent Secretary in driving forward his priorities for the Treasury, as well as overseeing delivery for the Permanent Secretary team, including by providing important and inclusive leadership to the newly restructured 'PERM' team.
- Acting on behalf of the Permanent Secretary, representing their views, negotiating and taking decisions on their behalf. Providing the Permanent Secretary with high quality, politically and strategically astute advice on a range of policy and departmental issues.
