Description

Our adult eating disorder community services is introducing peer support roles and this is an exciting opportunity to be part of this initiative.

We have two roles at Band 3, to work across both parts of our service in Day Care and Outpatients.

We are not seeking professionals but 'experts by experience' and are looking for the wealth of wisdom that comes from lived experience.

You should haveLived experience of mental health recovery in eating disorders

This role provides support for people with eating disorders during their treatment and recovery journey in the Eating Disorders Day Services team and the Outpatients team.

The role will assist people with eating disorders to establish greater control over their lives, help to identify aspects of life that give meaning, hope, value and purpose whilst recognising that an individual's recovery is a distinct and deeply personal process.

The post holder will provide practical and individual recovery-focused support to patients within the service, using their own lived experience of recovery, and role modelling to enhance the therapeutic relationship, and enable people using our services to achieve their individual recovery goals.

South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust(SLaM) provide the widest range of NHS mental health services in the UK as well as substance misuse services for people who are addicted to drugs and alcohol.

We work closely with the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience (IoPPN), King's College London and are part of King's Health Partners Academic Health Sciences Centre.

There are very few organizations in the world that have such wide-ranging capabilities working with mental illness.

Our scope is unique because it is built on three major foundations:
care and treatment, science and research, and training.

SLaM employ around 5000 staff and serve a local population of 1.1 million people. We have more than 230 services including inpatient wards, outpatient and community services.

Currently, provide inpatient care for approximately 5,300 people each year and treat more than 45,000 patients in the community in Croydon, Lambeth, Lewisham and Southwark; as well as substance misuse services for residents of Bexley, Bromley and Greenwich.
