As a Barclays Credit Risk Sanctioner you will sit within the Global Corporates team, covering a range of sectors across UK and US based global corporate clients, you will have credit risk management and approval of credit proposals within delegated discretionor recommendation of credit proposals to relevant sanctioning level.

Deciding which deals are supportable and which are not you will therefore need to exercise delegated discretion, or recommendation to appropriate sanctioning level where required.

Working Flexibly

What will you be doing?:


  • Reviewing/undertaking credit analysis and sanctioning/recommending exposure and exposure policies within acceptable risk parameters for a portfolio of clients
  • Analysing financial risk (balance sheet, P&L and cash flow) of clients including supporting the annual review process
  • Analysing the credit risk taken by the Barclays Group to customers/industries across a wide range of investment and commercial banking products
  • Leading credit processes for complex transactions, including distribution risk requests
  • Attending Business and Distribution committees and upholding a regular dialogue with relevant stakeholders (Sales, Banking, Portfolio Management, Legal, Operations, etc)
  • Contributing proactively to strategic initiatives within the risk function
  • Determining/recommending and monitoring of ratings and other relevant parameters
  • Maintaining the respective internal data systems and support internal/external reporting

What we're looking for:


  • Good general accounting knowledge, cash flow, balance sheet analysis and interpretation, financial models/ modelling techniques, risk measurement/hedge management techniques
  • Good knowledge across a wide range of Corporate and Investment Banking products including trade financing, derivative products, documentation
  • Bachelor's Degree

Skills that will help you in the role:

  • Additional professional qualifications, e.g. FRM, MBA, CFA, etc
  • Proven experience as a corporate credit sanctioner in an international banking environment
  • Transaction experience, including M&A and areas potentially including Leverage Finance and equity linked financing
  • Excellent commercial and credit judgement
