An exciting opportunity has arisen for an individual to undertake the role of UNISON Secretarial Assistant.

The post reports to the UNISON branch secretary who provides management and direct supervision.


You will be required to organise monthly meetings for the branch as well as the AGM, ensuring voting is carried out in accordance with Unison rules.

You will have responsibility for keeping the UNISON membership system up to date and ensure compliance with GDPR for UNISON and Essex Police.

Externally, the post holder corresponds regularly with the Regional Unison office in relation to local, regional and national campaigns.

A high degree of emotional intelligence is required as the post holder will often be the first point of contact for members who may be in distress when they contact the office.

Managing workload and ability to prioritise own workload to meet deadlines

Excellent customer service skills both written and verbal

Some degree of flexibility and the ability to multi task within a small team

Experience of working with office 365

Understanding of the General Date Protection Regulations (GDPR)

An understanding of unions

Experience of minute taking


Essex Police offer incremental increases within this salary band, therefore the salary for this position will rise to a maximum of £24,462.00.
