This is a new and exciting opportunity for a Healthcare assistant with at least 12 months experience in nursing / care work to be an integral part of our multi-disciplinary mental health team at HMP Pentonville on the Inpatient Unit.


HMP Pentonville is a busy local remand category B prison within north London with a high turnover and an operational capacity of 1300 spaces.

We have a 22 bedded inpatient unit which cares for men with both physical and psychological ill health and.

You will benefit from accessing both the Prison Healthcare Services and Beh MH Trust training programme for your CPD.

The post holder will be working closely with Nursing Staff and Occupational Therapist in providing excellent care to patients.

You will be working in a fast-paced environment with often complex and vulnerable service users.

The successful applicant will need to be flexible in approach and confident in their practice.

The successful applicant will be required to be expected to cover both day and night shifts.

The Trust reserves the right to require staff to work at such other places or locations as it considers reasonable and necessary on a temporary or permanent basis.

To work under the direction and supervision of trained nursing staff.
observe and interact with patients and document as required in the nursing notes, recognise and respect patients as individuals.


To raise standards of care and make the services culturally sensitive, relevant and accessible to meet the needs of the patients.

Assist qualified staff in the assessment of patients' needs and the implementation of individual plans of care.
Participate in the facilitation of group activities.
Record and document as required (and after appropriate training) physical observations, such as weight, temperature, pulse and respiration and
blood pressure.
Report to the nurse in charge any significant findings.
Participate in the observation of patients as per Trust Policy as required, and after appropriate instruction.
Participate in supervision and appraisal processes to enable reflection and personal development.
To be aware of and adhere to agreed procedures for delivering care.
Be aware of one's own limitations in terms of experience and knowledge.
