We are seeking highly motivated and conscientious individuals to join us as receptionists in both QH & KGH Emergency Departments.

We are offering contracts of 15 and 22.5 hours per week.


We are looking for suitably qualified staff to provide an efficient and effective front of house reception service, perform clerical duties and have the ability to remain calm under pressure.

Duties will include using various NHS systems to access and record patient details and update their records. Registering patients into the emergency departments, booking follow-up appointments and transport for patients being discharged or transferred.

You will be required to work cross-site at both Queens & King George Hospital.

The role requires working on an 8-week rolling rota covering both sites 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including public holidays.

07-15
15-20 (QH only)
15-23
23-07
Appointed staff must work all shift patterns and at both sites, this is non-negotiable.

Book in patients accurately; ensuring all mandatory fields are updated on various systems, (Careflow, Adastra, and BARTS transport).

Check the spine for CPIS & FGMIS alerts and communicate to triage nurse.

Book transport for discharged or transferred patients.

Accurately maintain filing in numeric order and archive as per protocol.

Ensure the uniform policy is adhered to at all times.

Ensure telephone enquiries are answered promptly, courteously, and accurately with due regard to patient confidentiality.

Generate appointments for various clinics.

Assist in training of new staff.

Ensure BEST training is compliant at all times.

Ensure the patient/reception working area is kept tidy at all times and confidentiality is maintained.

Ensure forms/photocopied documents are available.

Follow the Trauma/Unknown processes when booking in.

Be aware of downtime process and follow when needed.

Take on the role of shift coordinator when assigned (put out urgent cover etc.)

We provide care for the residents of three diverse London boroughs.

Most of our 7,800 permanent staff live in Barking and Dagenham, Havering and Redbridge and the majority are from black, Asian and minority ethnic groups.

We also provide healthcare services to people in south west Essex, and specialist neurosciences services to the whole of the county.


Our services include all the major specialties of large acute hospitals and we operate from two main sites - King George Hospital in Goodmayes and Queen's Hospital in Romford.

We have two of the busiest emergency departments in London - more than 300,000 people visited our A&Es in 2023.

We also provide outpatient services at Brentwood Community Hospital, Barking Community Hospital, Loxford Polyclinic, and Harold Wood Polyclinic.


We're pleased to be leading the way in reducing the time our patients wait to get the treatment they need.

The Elective Surgical Hub at King George Hospital is one of eight to be accredited as part of a national scheme ; the Care Quality Commission has raised the ratings for urgent and emergency care at Queen's and King George hospitals; and data released by NHS England showed that the Trust was the most improved in 2023 for reducing waits for emergency care.


We are particularly proud of our regional Neurosciences Centre; Radiotherapy Centre; Hyper Acute Stroke Unit; and dedicated breast care service at King George Hospital.

We're also part of the North East London Cancer Alliance.
