We are looking for a Gardener to join our team at Walmer Castle and Gardens. This is a full-time role working 36 hours per week.

Walmer Castle and Gardens is a 22 acre site which includes a kitchen garden, herbaceous borders, shrub borders and a jungle moat.

With an ongoing project in our Woodland, an existing meadow, shingle beach restoration and the creation of a new King's Meadow, we are looking for a gardener who has experience in maintaining natural areas such as these.

In liaison with the Head Gardener you, with a dedicated team of volunteers, will be responsible for the daily maintenance of these areas but, depending on the business need, you may also be required to work in the formal areas.

For this role it is essential to have experience of working with a chainsaw as well as larger machinery.

As a Gardener, you'll play a vital role in ensuring our gardens are well maintained and presented wonderful places to spend time in.

You'll contribute to bringing to life the stories that our gardens tell, helping visitors of all ages to make new discoveries.

In this particular you will mainly be responsible for the day to day management of the woodland, meadows, paddocks and beach front.

Depending on the business needs work in formal areas will also be part of this role. We are keen that the person filling this position has experience with the maintenance of natural and meadow areas. Experience with the use of larger machinery as well as a chainsaw licence is essential.


You will be qualified to at least NVQ level 2 standard in amenity horticulture and have previous experience of working in a high quality horticultural establishment.

You will work to high standards and be effective and efficient when working on your own or as part of the wider team.
