Job Introduction
Commercial Manager in the Technical Directorate Design Commercial Team predominantly focused on Change Management.


The Commercial Manager will lead aspects of design change, be self-motivated, disciplined and commercially astute with the ability to identify, analyse and develop responses to commercial risks, taking ownership and responsibility.

The Commercial Managerwill have oversight of the implementation and ongoing assurance that at all times the Project governance and any contract specific requirements are adhered to.


Excellent communication and customer facing skills are a must, along with working as part of a team promoting our culture and values.

You will consider problems as a challenge, collect information relevant to the problem, be disciplined in ascertaining theroot cause, identify and develop a practical solution, communicate the findings and implement action to resolve the problem.


Role Responsibility

  • Change Management identification of change, programme and cost impact assessment of change change control including advance notification of the potential impact due to change.
  • Writing reasoned commercial change appraisals based on contractual entitlement including contractual notifications working collaboratively with the whole of the Project Team maintaining a 'nosurprises' working relationship with all parties.
  • Agree a plan with the Senior Commercial Manager for change evaluation the plan must include target dates monitor performance and report progress against the plan.
Apart from change management, as Commercial Manager you may be required to get involved with the:

  • management of project insurances and notification of claims
  • Subcontract enquiries
  • Tender Appraisal
  • Subcontract negotiation
  • Project Evaluation
  • Measurement of the Works
  • Subcontract Management
  • Commercial risk and opportunity management, preparation and agreement of Applications and progress reporting.
  • Change Management Experience together with Strong Contractual Experience and Strong Problem Solving, Can-Do Approach
  • Strong Team Work Experience including Experience of working collaboratively
  • Preferably Experience in Design and Rail or Infrastructure projects
  • Preferably qualified to ICES or RICS accreditation and Relevant CSCS Card

The Skanska | Costain | STRABAG (SCS JV) is delivering the HS2 London Tunnels Contract.

Scope of works includes twin-bored tunnels (TBM), SCL tunnels, shaft sinking, bridge demolition and reconstruction, services diversions, earthworks and the constructionof site compounds.
