Job description:

Planning and scheduling:

Responsible for planning and scheduling transportation routes and vehicles, ensuring that deliveries are made on time and in accordance with customer requirements.

Fleet management:

The transport supervisor must ensure that the company's fleet of vehicles is wellmaintained and in good working condition. This includes arranging for repairs, maintenance, and inspections as needed.

Staff management:

The transport supervisor is responsible for managing drivers. This includes overseeing their work schedules, providing training and coaching, and managing performance.

Compliance:

The transport supervisor must ensure that all transportation activities comply with relevant laws and regulations, such as those related to safety, environmental impact, and licensing.

Customer service:

The transport supervisor is often the point of contact between the transportation team and the company's customers. As such, they must provide excellent customer service and address any concerns or complaints that arise.

Reporting:

The transport supervisor must maintain accurate records of transportation activities, including vehicle maintenance and repair logs, driver performance metrics, and delivery schedules.

Budgeting:

The transport supervisor may be responsible for managing transportationrelated budgets, including fuel, maintenance, and repair expenses.

Education and Qualifications:

A minimum level of education to GCSE
A degree or diploma in logistics, transportation, or a related field is preferred but not essential. (Training can be given)

Experience:

At least 35 years of experience in a transportation or logistics role, with some experience in a supervisory or management position
Experience with route planning and optimisation, dispatching, and fleet management using local knowledge and fleet tracking software
Experience working with a variety of transportation modes, such as HGV, LCV
Knowledge of transportation regulations and compliance requirements

Skills and Abilities:

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with a variety of stakeholders including drivers, customers, and suppliers
Strong problemsolving and decisionmaking skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks and manage competing demands
Ability to lead and manage a team, including performance management and coaching
Proficient with computer software programs such as Microsoft Office, and transportation management systems (TMS)
Ability to analyse data and make datadriven decisions
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Good organisational and time management skills
