Description

We are looking for a skilled and enthusiastic professional to help us develop the Environment Agency's incident management service in Yorkshire.

You will provide expertise in managing environmental incidents from within our Area Incident Team, supporting all aspects of incident planning, preparation, and response.

You will be the link between our team and Environment Management teams, bringing technical knowledge from an environmental incident management perspective to:

  • develop and maintain multi-functional strategic and tactical plans
- review and assure operational and site-specific plans developed by lead technical experts within functional teams
- advise on improvements to our response and preparation, ensuring lessons are learned and acted on from previous incidents
- support the team to carry out its wider functions including reviewing existing and emerging risks; emergency planning, and training and exercising
- support the team with Tactical First Response


You will work collaboratively with colleagues in area teams, local and national networks, and contribute to our multi-agency work with external partners through Local and Borough Resilience Forums.


  • You will be expected to support our response to all types of incidents. During office hours you will contribute to leading the initial tactical response to emerging incidents.

Experience/skills required

  • You will be a technical practitioner demonstrating:
  • broad knowledge and appreciation of the causes and impacts of environmental incidents
- effective written and verbal communication skills, able to influence and collaborate with others to achieve shared outcomes
- confidence working on your own and as part of team with a commitment to continuous improvement, including supporting the development of others
- the ability to lead and support working/task groups and organise/facilitate effective meetings
- resilience and adaptability under pressure, with the ability to prioritise and make risk-based decisions in challenging circumstances
- a commitment to a culture that promotes equality, diversity, and inclusion; health safety and wellbeing, and to tackling the impacts of the climate and ecological emergency through your work.
