Switchboard is a small department that works in association with the Force Control Room triaging calls from the public, evaluating their call to decide how best to direct the call or resolve the matter.

You can make a difference to a caller's experience of contacting Kent Police; therefore, it is essential that you can communicate on various levels and provide a first-class service putting victims and witnesses at the heart of your actions.

It would be advantageous if you understand Microsoft office computer systems such as Word, Excel and Outlook, as well as having knowledge of internal programs such as STORM and Athena packages.

It is also desirable for you to possess good typing skills, as a large part of the role will be keyboard based.

At times you will be expected to resolve the reason for their call by either recording details on the various IT systems available to you or by directing the caller to other agencies.

The ability to multi-task is essential for this role, as you may be required to access more than one system at a time.
