37 hours per week

Fixed Term Contract/Secondment for 6 months

Job purpose:


To be part of the Housing Regulation team within the Private Sector Housing service for Portsmouth City Council, delivering responsive and effective services to anyone who approaches the city council needing help regarding their home.

This includes the delivery of statutory functions relating to mobile homes, empty properties, housing standards and licencing of housing in multiple occupation (HMO).

The fulfilment of the purpose of the service is the primary focus as should be the aim at all times

  • Provide help and advice to make homes liveable, safe and healthy.

What is the role?


You may also be required to support other members of the Housing Regulations team with administrative tasks and ensure accurate meeting minutes are taken for meetings within the service when necessary.

You will be required to record information and correspondence from customers on our internal systems as well as update excel spreadsheets, used to measure demand within the service.

You will be required to undertake other admin duties as and when needed, and provide administrative cover for all areas of the service when needed.

This is a full time role which will be based in Private Sector Housing in the Civic Offices.


Who is the person?

You need to have:

  • A knowledge of Private Sector Housing functions is desirable however training will be provided in the role.
  • General office experience and an understanding of working within a front line service
  • Good written and verbal communication skills and have an attention to detail
  • A proactive attitude, can work on their own initiative and is able to manage multiple tasks whilst being able to meet deadlines
  • Good interpersonal and team working skills
  • Good standard of numeracy and literacy as you will be dealing with invoices and correspondence.
  • The ability to converse at ease with customers and provide advice in accurate spoken English
