Job summary:

Commercial and Projects is an agile and dynamic directorate with a positive culture. We embrace change and drive continuous improvement.


The role holder will work cross-functionally providing support in a number of specialised areas, that may include supporting procurement processes, contract management, supporting the commercial assurance process, or administrative activities, such as the management of the Commercial mailbox and key Commercial Boards.

The role holder will work across these areas and help to provide much needed capacity to test, adapt and improve our project delivery offer.


Job description:


Some of the responsibilities will include:

  • Support the set up, coordination and analysis of commercial assurance activities for major programmes within DCMS and our Arm's Length Bodies (ALBs);
  • Provide continuous support to the improvement of systems and processes;
  • Collate, analyse and present a variety of data sources to a variety of stakeholders;
  • Manage and respond to enquiries from a variety of stakeholders via the Commercial Mailbox;
  • Support DCMS's engagement activity with it's ALBs;
  • Provide support and assurance on Contract Management activities across the directorate and DCMS;
  • Provide analysis and audit of compliance with Contract Management processes and systems;
  • Effectively manage and work with the department's Commercial team with confidence and willingness to develop technical skills;
  • Maintain good record management;
  • Provide secretariat duties for a wide variety of commercial boards and meetings, including writing agendas, engaging with speakers, managing attendees etc;
  • Support the consistent use across DCMS of a standard set of commercial management tools and methodologies;
  • Provide diary management support to the Commercial Deputy Director.

Person specification:

Essential Requirements

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail with an awareness of how your work impacts the wider organisation.
  • Ability to collate, analyse and present a variety of different information sets in various formats, and demonstrate excellent IT skills including Microsoft and Google systems.
  • Be able to operate with autonomy, working flexibly and innovatively with policy colleagues across all of our work areas including senior stakeholders.
  • Take personal responsibility; challenging and holding stakeholders to account, helping us to develop innovative solutions to meet Departmental objectives and continuous improvement.
  • Demonstrable evidence of your commitment to personal development.
Desirable Skills

  • Familiarity with Programme and Project Management techniques and experience of delivering results using these methodologies.
  • Awareness of Government Commercial and Procurement policies and procedures, including EU Directives.
