Description

We are looking for a motivated individual with excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills who is dedicated to working as part of the team.

The post is a Band 5 Dosimetrist in Radiotherapy Planning based at Southend University Hospital Trust.


You would be joining us at a really exciting time, when lots of changes are being implemented in the Radiotherapy Physics Department, leading to many interesting opportunities.

To carry out radiotherapy treatment planning as part of a team in the Treatment Planning Service

Liaise closely with a wide range of staff in Oncology and Radiotherapy, including medical staff, physicists, technicians and radiographers.

Support developmental work within the department

To undertake work as part of project based teams to assist in the development of new techniques and processes.

Produce routine treatment plans, in accordance with relevant clinical protocols.

Check that all patient images required to produce treatment plans are available.

Co-register images from different sources; evaluating the validity of the co-registration.

Accurately outline anatomical volumes from CT scans for Gross Tumour Volumes and Organs at Risk, where trained.

Advise clinical staff on the effects of various treatment plan options on patient dose distributions.

Assist with the development of new techniques in conjunction with other staff groups and take an active role in introducing new equipment and clinical techniques

Manage own work and prioritise it on a day to day basis, working flexibly where necessary.

Keep careful records of all work performed and complete other appropriate records in accordance to Quality System requirements.


To participate in maintaining the departmental quality system by continual review of own procedures, writing and checking of relevant documents and work instructions, and carrying out audits within Radiotherapy, Radiotherapy Physics and ward areas.

To liaise with other health care professionals, including and in particular Radiographers, and Consultant medical staff.
