£26,232 - £29,433 per annum

Based in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, Hydrant Programme is a national policing programme supporting the work of the NPCC's Child Protection and Abuse Investigation Working Group.

Operation Hydrant was originally established in 2014 to coordinate the response to non-recent child sexual abuse and is now known as the Hydrant Programme and is supporting forces with child protection, abuse, exploitation and investigation issues.


Skills required:


  • Experience of researching and collating data
  • Good verbal and written communication skills with the ability to produce accurate and timely reports
  • Proven problemsolving skills, ability to use own initiative and work under pressure
  • Effective communication skills, being articulate and able to debate issues
  • Demonstrate a basic understanding of performance and intelligence management processes and techniques
  • Good computer skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite
  • Good literacy and numeracy skills

It is desirable that applicants meet the following criteria:

  • A working knowledge of Evidence Based Policing principles.
  • Previous experience of, or trained in the use of Microsoft Excel or analytical and data mining tools such as i2, iBase, Microsoft Reporting or equivalent


Also desirable is a working knowledge of the Police National Database (PND), Police National Computer (PNC) and wider knowledge on Crime Management Systems including HOLMES/Niche/Athena and Connect.

There is an occasional requirement to travel and work at other locations and venues nationally as may be required. Travel and expenses will be reimbursed in line with police staff council terms and conditions of service_._


Due to the nature of the role, security is crucial, therefore you will be required to pass and maintain the relevant security clearance to perform the role.

Hours of work are thirty-seven per week Monday to Friday; specific hours to be negotiated.

This post is offered on a temporary basis to , however Hydrant Programme is grant funded and there is possibility of an extension to this date.
