Stockton Hall Hospital is a 112 bedded Forensic medium secure psychiatric hospital, which cares for both mental illness and learning disability patients, which includes an Autistic Spectrum Disorder service and a female service.

The Role:


An exciting opportunity has arisen for a
Vocational Technical Instructor (VTI) post within the Occupational Therapy Department at Stockton Hall Hospital.


You will work under the supervision of a qualified Occupational Therapist and the Senior VTI to provide vocational rehabilitation opportunities for patients both within and external to the hospital.


Currently, we are focused on expanding vocational opportunities into the community, and the post holder will be expected to liaise with outside agencies in accessing work schemes / volunteering and setting up new opportunities for the patient group to address realistic work / volunteering opportunities to the portfolio of opportunities we currently offer patients within the hospital.

You will be passionate about addressing social inclusion and recovery. A further aspect of the role is to support patients working in the hospital shafé (shop/café).

This will include serving customers, ordering stock, handling money as well as being responsible for the cleaning and maintenance of equipment, and maintaining good health and safety practice.


You will work with patients in safe and supportive environments, providing vocational interventions which meet patient's needs and choices yet are thoroughly risk assessed for a medium secure environment.


You will be computer literate and be able to demonstrate ability to adapt communication styles to meet the needs of a range of individuals, including people with autism and complex needs.


Qualifications

  • None essential.
  • Experience of working with vulnerable adults useful
  • Experience of vocational work schemes desirable

Skills/Knowledge

  • Ability to empathize with patients but not breach staff / patient confidentiality.
  • Good and effective communication skills with a variety of agencies / patient needs
  • Good people skills friendly, talkative, honest.
  • Good listening skills.
  • Ability to follow instructions and to work under direction.
