Job description

Part Time / Various Hours Per Week / Permanent

Are you a suitably qualified Tutor who would like to provide a quality learning experience to our adult learners?

Leicester Adult Education offers a large and varied programme of further educational courses as well as extensive community-based provision. We have a diverse, enthusiastic student community, taught and supported by well qualified, dedicated staff.


We also work in partnership with Public Sector organisations and Voluntary and Community Sector (VCS) and are looking for a tutor who will be able to provide inspirational learning experiences in a range of diverse communities across Leicester.

This is a permanent position working part time, from 2 to 6 hours per week.

You'll be based at the Adult Education Centre however will travel regularly to a variety of adult learning settings across the city during the day, evening, and occasional Saturdays to run courses.


What you'll be doing


You'll provide high quality learning experiences in a range of Healthy Living courses from beginners to more advanced in community inclusion courses/events.

The aim will be to equip learners with a variety of key life skills to encourage self-reliance, build confidence and help reduce social isolation.

You'll teach students
- how to plan, prepare and cook healthy nutritional meals on a budget
- home management skills including budgeting, warm proofing and small repairs

You'll plan and deliver face-to-face Community Inclusions - Healthy Lifestyles courses to adult learners.

Ensuring learning is properly structured, you'll reflect current good practice and that assessments are robust to meet the demands of quality assurance.

In addition, you'll evaluate and provide continuous improvement to your teaching practice and have in place strategies that ensure maximum attendance, retention, and achievement.


Developing and creating engaging resources, as well as using teaching methods and styles which promote active learning, you'll ensure that learners achieve their full potential in their learning journey.

You'll assess student work and monitor learning to ensure outcomes and success rates are achieved.


As a key member of a wide team, you'll attend regular team meetings, CPD sessions, take part in enrolment sessions and attend internal verification meetings.


What you'll need
You'll be experienced in developing and delivering programmes of learning that focus on Community Inclusion and Healthy Lifestyles.

In addition to excellent communication, interpersonal and administrative skills, you'll have the appropriate qualifications, which include

  • An adult teaching qualification at level 4 with experience of teaching adults aged 16 years and above.
  • English, Maths qualifications at level 2 or prepared to work towards
  • IT qualification at Level 2 or ability to work at this level.


In addition to the qualifications, you'll have experience of teaching community inclusion - health lifestyles and demonstrate the ability to design and implement learning programmes from initial assessment to successful outcomes for learners.
