Derw Newydd supports learners aged 11-16 with social, emotional and/or mental health difficulties. Derw Newydd is part of Ysgol y Deri Special School.

This post will initially be based at Amelia Trust Farm and Cowbridge Court House, which are moving to a bespoke purpose built provision in Barry.

About the Role

Pay Details:
Grade 7, £28,371 - £32,020 Pro Rata + SEN allowance £1,401.00 p.a. pro rata

Days / Hours per Week: 37 hours; term time only

Description:

The governing body wish to appoint a dynamic, caring and energised behaviour support worker to join our amazing team.

Under the direction of the Head of Derw Newydd, the post holder will give specialist advice and support to schools to ensure the physical, social and emotional needs of the young people are effectively met.

The post holder will be an active member of the Derw Newydd provisions working across Vale settings and will provide primary prevention and early support as well as modelling how to work effectively with young people.

The role includes recording, evaluating and reflecting on all aspects of student behaviour with feedback to Derw Newydd.
As a school the focus is on inspiring change within our pupils to ensure their successful future.


About you

  • This would ideally suit someone who loves working with children and young people, someone who loves to impart knowledge and support them to thrive.
  • Post holder will have a very strong track record in working successfully with children and young people with severe social emotional mental health needs.
  • We are looking for someone who truly wants to make a difference to young people's lives; someone willing to be the difference.

  • We are looking for someone who recognises the importance of both high support and high challenge. There will be a focus on breaking down barriers that hamper access to learning.
  • Post holder is required to support students in developing coping strategies and have excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Qualities needed are the ability to be intune with own emotional state/personal regulation and to be calm under pressure. Good listening skills are crutial.
An enhanced and barred child and adult DBS check will be required for these posts.
