Job summary:


An exciting opportunity has arisen to work on Ward 6 (Cardiology) as an integral part of the clinical ward / area team and to be responsible for the co-ordination of all patient facilities services, ensuring a clean, safe and comfortable environment.

The main elements of the role are ensuring the delivery of cleaning, catering and minor maintenance services, together with other specified tasks to meet individual patient needs as determined by the Ward Sister/Charge Nurse.

The post holder will monitor quality standards, reporting deficiencies and recommending appropriate changes.

The housekeeper will enhance the patient's experience by:

  • Ensuring that the clinical environment is presented and maintained in a way which maximises the patient's sense of comfort, safety and well-being.
  • Delivering meals / beverages and ensuring that food is presented to patients in an attractive and appetising way


The house keeper will work co-operatively with colleagues, as part of the team and perform additional duties as and when directed by the ward clinical team, to enable nursing staff to undertake direct patient care.


Main duties, tasks & skills required:

  • Maintain adequate levels of stores to ensure the smooth running of the ward/ department / unit.
  • Work with ward and catering staff coordinate the timely delivery of meals/ snacks and beverages to patients.
  • Ensure the clinical environment is well presented, well maintained and complies with Trust Cleaning Standards, to maximise the patient's sense of comfort, safety and wellbeing.
  • To ensure systems are in place to ensure that all alcohol gel dispensers, paper towels and soap for hand hygiene are replenished, thus contributing to the prevention of cross infection within the clinical area
  • To ensure effective communication links are established and maintained with ward staff and other services. To ensure the importance of good housekeeping practices amongst all ward staff and visitors is actively promoted.
  • To ensure patients have adequate supplies to meet their basic needs, eg, toiletries as required.
  • Actively contribute to meetings which involve aspects of the Ward Housekeepers' role. Where changes have been agreed with direct inference on the ward housekeepers areas of responsibility to implement and monitor the changes.
  • To identify deficiencies in standards and take appropriate local action with the appropriate personnel. Keep the ward manager informed at all stages. Where initial resolution is not found discuss with the ward manager for further action.
