Central Mining Engineer
Do you have 5-10 years' experience Mining Engineering experience?


We're looking for someone to be based centrally from our head office in East Leake, providing support both remotely and on-site, to our 5 mines across England.

The role will provide a mix of hybrid and site working, as well as time spent in the office.

You'll be working for British Gypsum, the UK's leading manufacturer of plasterboard and plaster-based drylining systems and products.


What we're looking for:

For this role in particular we are looking for someone with the following skills, knowledge and experience:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or an equivalent qualification e.g. HND backed up by a minimum of 5 years experience in a Mining Engineer position.
  • A Postgraduate degree in a Mining or Geotechnical discipline would be an advantage
  • Sound knowledge of Safety Management and Risk Assessment processes
  • A good understanding of mining legislation, major hazards management and statutory roles at mines
  • Demonstrable experience in Operations Management or Project Management
  • Have the ability to deliver Mine Performance KPI's (safety, MTBF, MTTR etc.)
  • Experience of managing a team of people
  • Good communication and influencing skills
  • WCM/TPM experience

What you will be doing:

Our Mining Engineers are really important to us and our success, delivering the maintenance strategy and capital projects. In this role you will;

  • Work with mine managers & mineral planning team to revise and review mine design documents and development plans
  • Actively promote safe working practices as a core value
  • Assist with the development and deployment of mining safety and environmental standards to embed and promote compliant operations and best practice
  • Audit and review the mine to ensure that Major Mining Hazards are effectively controlled by successful planning and management
  • Motivate and develop members of the mining team whilst promoting personal wellbeing
  • Develop and deploy mining standards, involving key internal and external stakeholders
  • Continuously drive operational efficiency by promoting the use of WCM tool and techniques, and developing technical mining standards for deployment
  • Support mines with strategic capital projects to access additional reserves
  • Provide technical assistance to local mine management and advise on health, safety & mining engineering issues
