We are currently looking for an experienced and proactive Medical Secretary to join the Gastroenterology Department at Swansea Bay University Health Board.


The Medical Secretary will be responsible for proving comprehensive secretarial support to the Gastroenterology Department, maintaining a direct and close working relationship with the Consultant/Medical staff, Nursing Team, Medical Secretaries as well as other support staff within the Department.

If you have drive and enthusiasm, and are suitably qualified, this post will offer an exciting new challenge.


Dealing with day-to-day queries within the department; responding to patients, nursing, GP and medical staff queries in an appropriate and sensitive manner via telephone or face to face.


Typing clinic notes and letters ensuring all investigation results are appropriately managed, filed in case notes and copied to GP's and patients where necessary and in a timely manner.


Ensuring in-patient summaries are managed and are filed in patients' notes using the e-discharge system, as well as putting notes in order and keeping filing up to date.

Sorting/dating all investigations and ensuring relevant correspondence including blood results, x-ray results are available in preparation for clinic attendance

Ensuring that all dictation equipment is ready for use in clinic.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

The Medical Secretary is responsible for providing an efficient secretarial and administrative service to the Consultant Physicians and their teams/departments.


The Medical Secretary will maintain direct and close working relationships with the Consultant and their medical team, as well as other staff within the department, Clerical Support Staff, Nursing Staff, Medical Support Manager, Service Manager and other secretaries.
