The Wellcome Trust is a global charitable foundation. We improve health for everyone by funding science, leading policy, and advocacy campaigns, and building partnerships.


We plan to spend £16bn over the next ten years, funding new discoveries in life, health, and wellbeing, and taking on three global health challenges: mental health, infectious disease and climate and health.

These challenges need the bold science we support, but they won't be solved by science alone.

We are looking for a Global Events Organiser to join our team to a maternity cover of c. 10 months (end date July24).

Where in Wellcome will I be working?


You will be working in the Global Events Team within the Environment & Workplace Services /People reporting to the Global Events Manager.

The Global Events team support events across the organisation that contribute to Wellcome's objectives and ambitions.

To live up to the priorities expected of Wellcome all events have participant wellbeing and health & safety at their core, the events are as sustainable as possible and we aim to create a diverse and inclusive culture for all.


The team is responsible for organising in person, hybrid and virtual events; from conferences and meetings to networking workshops and team building away days, held at our Gibbs or Wellcome Collection buildings, and at any external venues around the UK and worldwide.

What will I be doing?


The Global Events Organiser will be working in partnership with the Global Events Manager, Global Events Organisers and Global Events Officer, host areas, external event partners and suppliers to enable Wellcome to achieve and celebrate its mission by organising a portfolio of low to high complexity events.


As a Global Events Organiser, you will:

  • Independently deliver low to high complexity events by: negotiating with host and partnering areas to establish their outcomes; advise on and manage the event budget recommend ideas that would enable successful event outcome; source and organise logistics conduct risk assessments that consider safety, wellbeing, accessibility, sustainability and inclusion; completing after event activities e.g. expenses, feedback.
  • Work with suppliers/hosts to ensure the event meets health and safety requirements at a level that's acceptable to Wellcome.
  • Consider the crisis management detailing of events, and should such incidences occur, follow and/or lead event hosts/participants in line with Wellcome's crisis management procedures (on site or remotely).
  • Participate and contribute to the effective running of Team Meetings to make them a place where lessons learnt, sharing of knowledge/experiences, and collective planning contribute to a culture of continuous improvement.-
  • Contribute to a diverse and inclusive culture across the organisation, collaborating across departments.

We are looking for someone who enjoys working in the events space with relevant experience in managing end-end event process.


We are looking for someone who:

  • Has experience of working in an event management space as well as working within a conference and events focused organisation/team
  • Has experience in customer service as well as effective problem solving and decision making
  • Is able to use an event management system
