Assist and learn from stylists how to provide The Cutting Company hairdressing services to our valued clientele, and support other salon members with their duties while achieving your Apprenticeship in Level 2 Hairdressing.

An ideal Hair Apprentice does not require previous experience within a salon environment.

They must be able to maintain The Cutting Company principles when performing any service in the absence of a stylist for example shampooing, head massage, promoting backwash products, and providing the highest level of customer service to guests visiting the salon.

Their personality will ideally reflect The Cutting Company brand showing passion, creativity, motivation, and eagerness to learn to become leaders within the hair fashion world.

Key relationships:

You will have a direct responsibility to Management, Appointed NVQ Assessors, In-Salon Educators, Stylists, and other Assistants.


Salon operations:


  • Keeping up to date with new collections within The Cutting Company and the hairdressing industry
  • Keeping fire exits clear
  • Performing skin testing before chemical services and recording appropriately
  • Wearing required personal protective equipment and other Health and Safety procedures.
  • Assisting stylists with preparing clients for and during the service being provided, this may include neutralising, removing colours, and blowdrying hair under supervision if required.
  • Housekeeping, keeping the salon tidy, and reflecting The Cutting Company brand principles.

Other duties:


  • Keeping a positive salon atmosphere
  • Promoting 'The Cutting Company' and its brand principles
  • Attendance at salon activities in and out of the salon.
  • Recognised team member with a valued contribution to the salon.

Expectations:


  • Attend all in salon assessment and training days and participate in periodic training reviews.
  • Complete courses offered within The Cutting Company, NVQ levels, and complete all project work and tests set by assessors and instructors in the agreed timeframe.
  • Adhere to information received during training.
  • Demonstrate learning to the team, new assistants, and guests.
  • Provide suitable training models when requested and having them on call if needed.
  • Observe as many consultations and haircuts as possible, with various stylists and recording in your CPD folder. A minimum of 1 per day is required. This is especially beneficial with a new client Only this will help to expand your knowledge of 'hairdressing vocabulary'.
  • Keep your one file up to date with journal entries and photo evidence.
  • Take before and after pictures of every practical hairdressing task you do, whether this is on a block or a client. This is to be saved in a named file on our iPad and should be kept up to date weekly to produce as evidence at any given time.
Entry requirements

GCSE Maths and English Grade C/4 or above.

Predicted grades will be accepted.


To be eligible for this apprenticeship, you must meet the following residency criteria: You must have lived in the UK, the British Overseas Territories, or Crown Dependencies (Channel Islands and Isle of Man) for at least three years prior to the start of the apprenticeship.

Training to be provided

Hair Professional Level 2

Training with Milton Keynes College.

Ongoing training, support and development with the employer.

Hours per week 40
Working week 9:00-5:30pm and least 1 (possibly 2) late shifts 11:30am-9pm.

8:30-5pm on Saturday and a day off in the week.
