As a Welfare Benefits Adviser, covering Northern Ireland, your ability to provide specialist welfare benefits advice could have a real impact on people's lives.

Last year, we achieved financialgains of £7.1m for the nearly 2,000 people we supported.

The ability to travel around the Region when required is essential in being able to undertake this role (travel expenses and subsistence paid).

We are the country's largest Armed Forces charity, with 210,000 members, 50,000 volunteers and a network of partners and charities; helping us give support wherever and whenever it's needed.

If successful, the main duties of your role will be to:

  • Manage referrals and ongoing caseload to ensure clients receive appropriate and timely support.
  • Provide specialist level welfare benefit casework, advising on legal position and all suitable options, maintaining professional advice standards.
  • Act for the client where necessary; drafting letters, obtaining medical evidence, and researching case law as appropriate.
  • Prepare written submissions and provide representation at first tier tribunal.
  • Maintain a thorough and up to date knowledge of benefits issues affecting people with a disability and/or longterm health condition.
  • Carry out benefit calculations and income maximisation through the take up of appropriate benefits, identifying and advising on entitlement.
  • Maintain detailed case records for the purpose of continuity of casework, information retrieval, statistical monitoring, and report preparation, using the IT software provided.
  • Develop and maintain local contacts with agencies and charities associated with debt and benefit issues. These will include MOD, DWP, NHS, local authorities, and service charities.
