We are looking for a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant to join a team at a school in the Chichester area.

They specialise in supporting pupils who may have experienced trauma and may exhibit a range of challenging behaviours relating to their highly complex needs.

Their aim is for their pupils to return, if possible, to attend an educational provision appropriate to their needs, once their self-esteem, motivation, and academic achievement are re-established and they have progressed in their emotional development.

At the school, they maintain a nurturing and positive environment that allows a flexible path tailored to the needs of the individual learner.

This is dynamic, and the pace at which they work, and the pupil progresses is unique to each individual.

They understand that our pupils may be anxious at times, and they are committed to supporting their social, emotional, and academic growth, which is fundamental to their therapeutic community.

Key responsibilities:

  • Providing onetoone or small group support for pupils with complex needs
  • Assisting teachers in the preparation and delivery of lessons
  • Supporting pupils with their personal care needs
  • Building positive relationships with pupils, teachers, and parents/guardians
  • Encouraging and motivating pupils to reach their full potential
  • Managing behaviour and promoting positive behaviour management strategies
  • Attending training sessions and staff meetings as required

Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with pupils with complex needs, including those who may have experienced trauma
  • A positive and proactive attitude
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people
We offer a supportive and welcoming working environment, ongoing professional development opportunities, and a competitive salary package. If you are passionate about education and supporting pupils with complex needs, we would love to hear from you.
