Job summary:


The UKHSA North West is team of Consultants in Health Protection, Health Protection Practitioners, Surveillance Scientists, Emergency Preparedness and Business Operations.


Our health protection team is recruiting to a permanent Advanced Health Protection Practitioner (AHPP) post who will have overall strategic leadership and operational management of the health protection practitioner workforce in Cumbria and Lancashire.


The AHPP will actively lead and support strategic design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of sub-regional, regional and national priority workstreams in agreement with the Principal Health Protection Practitioner (PHPP), Head of Health Protection and Deputy Director.

They will work collaboratively with other AHPPs across the region, to provide resilience and ensure consistent standards of quality and governance for regional operational delivery.


Job description:


The AHPP has a significant leadership role within the team and will have day to day operational leadership responsibility to ensure the team work collaboratively and effectively, managing incidents and outbreaks of infectious and non-infectious environmental hazards.


The AHPP may be requested to deputise for the Principal Health Protection Practitioner (PHPP) or other senior leaders in the region.


The post holder will work both collaboratively and autonomously with authority, using advanced knowledge and skills to help develop and deliver services across professional, functional and geographical boundaries through a networked approach.


They will be a catalyst for change, appropriately challenging boundaries, strengthening clinical governance, leading quality improvement innovations and, developing workforce to meet service, staff and stakeholder needs.


The post holder will actively lead and support strategic design, implementation, monitoring & evaluation of sub-regional, regional and national priority workstreams in agreement with the PHPP, Head of Health Protection and Deputy Director for Health Protection.

The North West health protection team operates Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm and provides an out-of-hours on-call duty service at all other times.

The post holder will participate, following appropriate training, in the on-call rota, for which financial remuneration is provided as per terms and conditions of contract.

The frequency of on call the post holder will undertake is based on service needs, expected to be >1:6 and <13.
