Job description:

The post holder will have in depth experience of managing specialist teams responsible for operational security or information assurance.


They will be well versed in the prevailing legislation - Data Protection Act 2018 (DPA 2018), Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA), and Public Records Act 1958 (PRA) - or standards set by the Government Security Group and / or industry and be able to demonstrate how they have ensured compliance with them.


They will work with colleagues and senior stakeholders, both internal and external, to deliver high quality services that promotes a positive security / information assurance culture.

Ensuring our data is retained in accordance with agreed timeframes and appropriate records are transferred to the National Archives.


Ensuring the CPS has the confidence of the public, the Information Commissioner's Office, and our Criminal Justice System (CJS) partners in the way in which we handle and protect our data will be a crucial aspect of the role.


They will be responsible for the CPS' management of requests for information under the DPA, FOIA, PRA and from external bodies such as the Criminal Cases Review Commission or Public Inquiries.


As the Departmental lead on Business Continuity, they will be responsible for regularly testing our policies and our response structure, ensuring it remains fit for purpose.

They will also be responsible for the Information Architecture function and the CPS' Information Management Strategy


Person specification:


  • To strengthen the security and information assurance culture across the CPS and promote compliance and accountability at all levels, by providing day to day leadership and support to the Team Leaders within SIAD
  • Provide advice and guidance to the business, particularly key stakeholders Information Asset Owners (IAOs) and SIMs.
  • Collaborate with the Information Asset Owners (IAOs) to implement the agreed operational security and information assurance strategy.
  • Manage the vetting framework / process to ensure it reflects the business needs and appropriately mitigates any risks
  • Provide guidance and advice to senior staff on managing and mitigating local risks
  • Work with the Government Property Agency / third party estate owners, as necessary, to ensure a safe and secure environment is provided for all CPS staff which meets our CPS security protocols
  • Maintain an effective relationship with the Information Commissioner's Office, seeking their advice where necessary and accounting for the CPS' performance.
  • Ensure all Operational Security and Information Assurance policies are reviewed biannually and remain fit for purpose.
