Priory Hospital Newbury is a Priory Hospital set on the southern outskirts of Newbury and boarders with Hampshire and Wiltshire.

Close by are the big towns of Basingstoke and Reading with the cities of Winchester and Swindon an easy commute.

We have excellent public transport links to London which is just a 50 minute train journey.


We are excited to be launching an updated service after a period of expansion and improvements now offering a 34 bed Recovery and Rehabilitation service for men with enduring mental ill health.

Within the service is a care pathway offering an admission ward, a community facing ward, a longer term ward for patients with more complex needs and also a 4 bed flat for patients who are returning to independent living in the community.

The site is warm and welcoming with a homely atmosphere.


We are looking to recruit a trustworthy, dynamic, reliable and motivated individual to be apart of our team as a Maintenance Assistant.


Reporting to the Support Services Manager, the post holder will be be responsible for ensuring the Hospital Maintenance Standards are maintained; and contribute to the delivery of effective, efficient and economical day-to-day maintenance, new and alteration works to ensure the safety of colleagues, patients and visitors.

The role involves carrying out general maintenance tasks, compliance testing (e.g. fire alarms, vehicle checks and bed inspections) as instructed, helping maintain a well decorated, safe and comfortable environment, identifying and reporting any damage or faults and to carry out any other duties relating to the department as required by the Support Services Manager.


You will need to be aware of and comply with the requirements of the Health & Safety at Work Act, (encompassing risk assessments, method statements and Permits to Work), associated Acts and subordinate Regulations to minimise risk.

The post holder requires basic numeracy and literacy skills. You will have an ability to put attention to detail, prioritise and work with minimum supervision.

It is necessary that the post holder has good communication skills as you will at times be required to respond to routine enquires.

A full UK drivers license is desirable.


You will not be required, nor should you, carry out any works that require a certification unless you are in possession of an in date and correct certificate, which will be an advantage.

Previous experience and understand of building, plumbing, mechanical and/or electrical disciplines would be an advantage.
