Grade - UE07 £37,099 to £44,263 per annum (A revised salary range for this grade of £39,347 to £46,974 is planned to take effect from Spring 2024)

College of Arts, Humanities & Social Science - Social & Political Science

Full Time - 35 Hours Per Week

Contract type - Fixed Term - 42 months

The Opportunity:


You will design and conduct empirical research and quantitative data analysis on either the UK/Scottish or German/Bavarian parliaments; author and co-author project outputs; and engage in dissemination activities, both for academic and non-academic stakeholders, contributing towards a systematic and comparative study of parliaments (and the representatives and officials therein) as consumers, producers and mediators of knowledge.


This post is fixed term for 42 months from as early as 1 May 2024, ending no later than 31 January 2029.


This post is advertised as full-time (35 hours per week) however we are open to considering part-time or flexible working patterns.

While we are looking for a commitment that the postholder would be on campus at least three days a week, we are also open to considering requests for hybrid working (on a non-contractual basis) that combines a mix of remote and regular on-campus working.


Your skills and attributes for success:

  • A PhD (or equivalent) in a relevant social science (for example, Politics, Sociology, or Science and Technology Studies), with training or skills relevant to the project.
  • Relevant training in qualitative AND/OR quantitative research methods, to an advanced level.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of political science research on the politics of relevant case study locations (e.g. UK and/or Germany).
  • Ability to author high quality academic publications and meet relevant deadlines.
  • Relevant language skills to conduct advanced research on the case study parliaments (i.e. German AND English).
