Are you an experienced and enthusiastic individual who is looking for a new challenge in Clinical Research? Do you want to develop your research governance knowledge and experience in a practical setting?

We are recruiting someone either new to, or with experience in research governance and/or delivery, and who would like to join our team for 12 months to cover maternity leave.

A secondment is possible, if approved by your current manager.

BCHFT is a Mental Health Trust, and our Clinical Research portfolio of studies covers all services, including Eating Disorders, Learning Disability, Memory Assessment, IAPT, Early Intervention, Autism and many more.


Main duties of the job:


The role of Senior R&I Governance Facilitator is varied, interesting and challenging and requires a proactive and 'can do' approach.

The Governance Facilitator works as part of the R&I governance team to manage a portfolio of research projects, clinical trials, service evaluations and surveys.

They facilitate all aspects of research activity in line with NHS regulatory requirements and provide research governance advice to the R&I team and to the wider Trust, independently troubleshooting as necessary, in line with national policy and guidelines.

Our R&I team is continuing to grow its activities, expanding the type and number of clinical research studies. These include commercial and non-commercial trials, medication, therapy or other interventional studies, as well as non-interventional questionnaires and surveys.

The R&I team is very supportive and full training and induction will be provided. There will be opportunities for personal and professional improvement, including the development of leadership skills.
Our team works using a hybrid model, enabling working at all BCHFT sites and at home.


Detailed job description and main responsibilities:
*Using knowledge and expertise of Research Governance, independently manage a portfolio of projects undertaking assessments of new projects in a timely and accurate manner, maintaining records of progress and communicating often complex outcomes to the research teams and stakeholders. *Using knowledge of effective study feasibility, collaborate with the research delivery team to assess the feasibility to undertake research projects, and manage the process using established Assess, Arrange, Confirm processes, delegating tasks and duties as appropriate. *As part of the feasibility assessment and set-up of portfolio research, attend and facilitate Feasibility meetings, Site Initiation Visits, and other visits or meetings required during this process.

  • Act as a first point of contact and provide expert governance advice to research teams working on studies adopted onto the NIHR CRN Portfolio, both commercial and noncommercial, on the processes and timelines by which their research will be assessed.
  • On a day to day basis, resolve complex governance issues to enable fast and efficient set up of research, seeking support only when all avenues of problem solving have been explored.
  • Undertake regular horizon scanning for research study opportunities to increase opportunities for study participation and determine novel and innovative ways of setting up studies to maximise recruitment to time and target.
  • Ensure HR arrangements are in place for research active staff, including the issuing of Letters of Access and Honorary Research Contracts as required *Enter data into local project management systems and generate reports as required, ensuring accuracy and attention to detail in compliance with the reporting requirements of the Department of Health and National Institute for Health Research*Contribute to the communication of research performance and activity in accordance with routine internal and external reporting requirements. *Collaborate with the R&I Governance Manager to produce and update Standard Operating Procedures and work instructions to guide the facilitation processes for research.
  • Respond to governance queries promptly and ensure that appropriate course of action is undertaken. *Supervise the R&I Administrative Assistant, and oversee their governance related responsibilities.
  • Manage personal and professional development and seek opportunities for further development and skill enhancement. Solicit constructive feedback in order to improve personal performance where necessary.
  • To undertake any other duties of a similar nature consistent with the responsibilities of this post in order to provide a quality R&I governance service.
