This is a fantastic opportunity to join Bristol City Council as a Seasonal Grounds Maintenance Operative.

Our depot locations are:

  • Eastville depot BS5 6NL
  • Sea Mills BS9 1DP
  • Bishopsworth BS13 7TW
We provide maintenance in formal parks, nature reserves, play areas and sports facilities.

These spaces provide a vital free resource to Bristol citizens, important for the good health and wellbeing of every community.

We also maintain communal grounds for our social housing sites across the city.


This is a unique role within the organisation which will ensure that the City's parks are kept clean and well-kept ensuring users can enjoy the spaces.

This is a fixed term contract 37 hours per week running until the end of October 2024.

There will be weekend working as our parks are used 24/7. This will be on a rota and will involve two weekends a month on average.

A driving licence is essential to help us to deliver the service efficiently across the city.

You will be provided with all uniform and safety equipment and training to carry out your role safely.


What will I be doing?
You will be working outdoors in parks and open spaces and within our housing sites across the City.

As part of the team, you will help ensure clean and tidy parks that are well managed which is one of Bristol residents' key concerns.

You will also ensure parks contribute to the wellbeing of every resident and visitor to the City.


You will have a highly important and visual role in making sure our parks and green spaces are welcoming and attractive places to visit.

You will ensure that parks are cleared of litter and that bins are regularly emptied and maintained. You will be part of teams working on horticultural tasks such as grass cutting and shrub pruning.

You will ensure parks facilities are clean and safe for visitors to use and check for issues that may impact on park users.


What do I need to have?


You will have a flexible approach to work, be required to work weekends on a rota basis and you will need to be able to meet the physical demands of the role.

You will have a strong customer focus and be prepared to work both in a small team and on your own at different times.

The post may operate across a range of sites throughout the city in all weathers.
