Description

To be managerially and technically responsible to the EBME External Section Head in the area assigned for all ongoing managerial, administrative and professional matters.

To be professionally accountable for matters that affects the calibration, servicing and maintenance of medical electronic equipment to the Head of Clinical Engineering Dept.

To participate in the full range of work undertaken by the EBME External section, including support on an agreed basis to all Trust areas, Community and external contractual obligations, being responsible on a day-to-day basis for each aspect of the work to the Section Head.

To carry out procedures which will be complex and to share in the broad work of the Medical Electronics section.


This work will require constructive relationships with clinical users to be established and maintained, and a high degree of teamwork.

To achieve and maintain a level of expertise which, combined with substantial personal initiative, will enable procedures to be completed without supervision.

To participate in the commissioning, repair and preventative maintenance of complex medical equipment for which the sections carry responsibility, and to ensure that the highest possible standards of safety and of technical work are achieved and maintained.

To participate in laid down work schedules and to assist in maintenance of records of equipment maintenance, repairs, hazards, etc.


relating to the technical service, including the implementation of new and revised protocols and standards, such as HS11 Management of Medical Devices Trust Policy, Managing Medical Devices (Jan 2021), Clinical Governance, CQC, Standards for Better Health, etc.

To ensure, in co-operation with the EBME External Section Head that at all times as agreed a technician is available to clinical users within an agreed maximum time, following an initial call.

To co-operate closely with all Medical Physics and Clinical Engineering staff with regard to electronic and mechanical aspects of safety, on-going maintenance and development of Medical Equipment.

To contribute towards the development of computer based systems used within the Medical Physics and Clinical Engineering Department.


To conform to the systems, processes and procedures as detailed in the departments ISO 9001:2015 Quality Manual and draft versions of this manual.

To contribute as required to the continual improvement of the departments Quality Management System, including its systems, processes and procedures.

To conform to the systems, processes and procedures required to interact with the departments Q-Pulse Document Management System. To contribute as required towards the training of other staff, and to co-operate with medical, nursing and other staff.

To be available for travel to other hospitals as required. To be available for on-call and overtime work as necessary. To demonstrate a flexible approach to the needs of the Medical Physics & Clinical Engineering Department. To conform to safe working practices, and departmental policies and procedures.


To undertake any other duties which may be required by the Head of Department, the Head of Clinical Engineering or the Operational Managers and which are appropriate to the post.

This Job Description may be reviewed periodically in the light of developing work requirements. The post holder will be expected to contribute to that review
