Your role of Steward at Historic Environment Scotland will be a fixed term position, running from May until August 2024 initially.

Explore the fascinating stories from Scotland's past and share your passion with international and local visitors who come to Bute and Port Glasgow through the season.


You will have the opportunity to work at:

Rothesay Castle:
unique among Scottish castles for both its early date and unusual circular plan.

It's also famous for its close links with the Stewarts - both while they were hereditary high stewards and, from 1371, a royal dynasty.

To this day, the heir to the throne still has the title Duke of Rothesay.


Glasgow & Strathclyde is a vibrant area of Scotland, encompassing 21 sites from Dunbartonshire to Ayrshire, including Glasgow and Lanarkshire.

Our team works across a wide range of sites including castles, cathedrals, and gasworks.

As a steward, you are key to enhancing the experience of our visitors by engaging with them about all aspects of our unique sites.
