Governance Assistant Intern to join us based in
our Birmingham City Centre office/home working location.You will join us on a 6 month fixed term contract and receive a competitive rate of £9.50 per hour.

The
Governance Assistant Intern provides much needed administrative support to facilitate the Board of Trustees to carry out their duties and support good governance of the charity.


Key duties and responsibilities of our Governance Assistant Intern:

  • Arranging Board and committee meetings
  • Taking minutes
  • Chasing/following up on actions
  • Support the Company Secretary to ensure statutory compliance and high standards of governance within the Charity
  • Lead and develop the induction process for trustees and independent committee members
  • Prepare agendas, compile, and circulate papers to strict deadlines, taking minutes and ensuring followup actions are completed
  • Have responsibility for the daytoday management and maintenance of governance arrangements ensuring adherence with appropriate Companies Act, Charities Act and Charity Commission requirements
  • Work cross functionally to gather data and deliver assurance on matters related to governance and filing requirements
  • Manage governance enquiries answering or escalating issues as appropriate
  • Undertake any other reasonable duties or projects related to this post, as required
  • Discrete shortterm projects to include the recruitment, induction and development of trustees, risk management and compliance with the Charity Governance Code.

Skills and experience required to become our Governance Assistant Intern:

  • Previous experience of providing charity governance and compliance advice to Boards would be a huge advantage but not essential for this internship
  • Intermediate IT skills in Microsoft Office
  • Excellent verbal communication skills with the ability to proactively provide support and foresee the needs of trustees, particularly as trustees first join the Charity
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Previous experience of drafting short, accurate Board minutes
  • Able to meet deadlines and manage multiple/conflicting priorities to successfully navigate the Board and committee quarterly cycle and filing requirements
  • Be able to follow up on any actions politely but firmly, ensuring they are complete and provide that assurance to trustees.
