Description

CONSULTANT HAEMATOLOGIST WITH AN INTEREST IN HAEMATOLOGICAL MALIGNANCY (INCLUDING MYELOID DISORDERS AND MYELOMA) AND GENERAL HAEMATOLOGY

BEATSON WEST OF SCOTLAND CANCER CENTRE

Applications are invited for a Consultant Haematologist post for NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (GG&C), based at the Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre (BWoSCC).

We are looking for a motivated individual to join the team of 33 Haematology consultants in Greater Glasgow & Clyde.

The successful applicant will be based at BOC, to provide haematology services for blood cancer patients, primarily with myeloid malignancies and myeloma.

This is a replacement full time post (10PAs - 9DCC, 1SPA) working closely with the Myeloid and Myeloma Teams and their respective Clinical Nurse specialists but also being part of a larger team totalling 7.5 WTE consultants delivering inpatient, outpatient, day case, consultative and laboratory commitments.

In addition the post holder will contribute to a General Haematology clinic with responsibilities for seeing GP referrals in conjunction with 2 other Haematology Consultants.

The successful applicant will be involved in the on-going development of Clinical & Laboratory Haematology services for GG&C, in particular in relation to blood cancers.

On-call responsibility will be 1:6.5 for BOC (6 months of the year) and 1:5 for GRI (the other 6 months).

The latter on call is shared for the other 6 months with a newly appointed Beatson Lymphoma Consultant.

The applicant should be appropriately experienced and qualified in the specialty, fully registered with the GMC and have a licence to practice.

Those trained in the UK should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or eligibility for specialist registration (CESR) or be within 6 months of confirmed entry from date of interview.

Non UK applicants must demonstrate equivalent training.

BWoSCC is the busiest unit for haematological cancers in Scotland and offers the opportunity for subspecialisation in cancer types. It is envisaged that the postholder will contribute primarily to the Myeloid (AML/MDS/ALL/MPN) and Myeloma services. It is a busy Teaching Hospital with approximately 160 beds for solid and haematological cancers. It houses the regional radiotherapy and PET scanning facilities.

It is supported by a 6 bedded high acuity unit (staffed by critical care nurses) and an Acute Oncology Admissions Unit for rapid assessment and treatment of unscheduled admissions.

General Haematology and Myeloma will be the core clinics for the post holder with attendance at another sub-specialty clinic to be discussed.

In addition to the above existing posts a newly appointed joint University / NHS post is due to commence in February 2023 with an acute leukaemia/myeloid interest.

Patients in the North Sector with new or known haematological disorders, including new haematological malignancies, are also admitted acutely to GRI via local A&E.

There are now no dedicated in-patient haematology beds at GRI.

The post holder will be expected to contribute to liaison services along with the recently appointed lymphoma consultant to ensure the patients admitted to this site have appropriate haemato-oncological support and are transferred to BWoSCC when required.

Full details of the post are available in the job description.
