The role and what you'll be doing

Principal Engineers provide technical leadership at Policy Expert where you establish technical standards and drive Policy Experts overall technical architecture, engineering practices, and engineering methodologies.

You'll be working on our most challenging problems, building high quality, architecturally sound systems that are aligned with our business needs.

You will lead, develop and mentor the engineering teams to deliver our scalable, cloud-based, next-generation insurance platform and as a member of the Technical Delivery Leadership Team, you will help define what great looks like and help shape our long term technical and business strategy.

Responsibilities:

Defining medium/long term Architectural Design within own and wider teams
Communicating with the stakeholders about changes, challenges and progress.
Evaluating technical feasibility in line with commercial needs of the business
Influencing the wider business to buy into designs that will support business priorities
Challenge the team to improve collectively through Personal & Team Development
Manage team on day to day basis including 121's, appraisals, training
Ownership of team recruitment

What we are looking for

Java 8 or higher
Clean code and understand principles of OO
AWS
Created or worked on APIs using HTTP
Distributed and/or microservice architectures
Message architectures like AMQP, JMS, SNS, SQS
DevOps philosophy. You write it, you parent it in the wild
Desire to be agile, practical, pragmatic, and lean.
Able to work in a team and as an individual contributor.
Strong people management experience with a proven ability to mentor and grow a highly productive, dynamic and technically proficient teams
